••••• Me, blind luck and a TdF-built Serotta team bike •••••
I bid on it without knowing what it really was, and the seller didn't describe it as anything particularly special. After I received it, and unwrapped it from its still fresh-from-Serotta-repaint box, it wasn't until I emailed Serotta with the serial number (70411) and heard back from Kelly Bedford that things really started clicking. By then I had already built it up and found it to be an unusually perfect ride for me.
When I think about the probably tens of thousands of dollars I've spent on bikes of every material, every build, every promise... yeesh... and then I take out my "old" bike here, built with ho-hum Ultegra 9-speed... and I settle into the smoothness it lets me feel on every single ride... it's hard to share, but I can't resist. (What's another word for dialedness?) So, for what it's worth, some specifics about the lucky circumstances that started it all and some experiences I've had with this bike since then.
Some, yeah, sharing.
